# Grade your GC or MGC gold futures setup before you enter the trade.

> Upload a screenshot of GC (the 100 troy ounce COMEX gold futures contract) or MGC (its 10 troy ounce micro version) and SnapPChart reads the candles, structure, and levels the contract is reacting to, then returns a setup grade, entry, stop loss, targets, and risk notes. The read is identical across both contract sizes.

## Can AI grade a GC or MGC gold futures chart?

Yes. Screenshot the GC or MGC chart from your futures platform and upload it. SnapPChart reads the candles, structure, key levels, and volume from the image, then grades the setup A+ to F with an entry, a structural stop, multi-target exits, and the reward measured against the risk, the same way for either contract size.

GC and MGC are the same underlying market, COMEX gold, sold in two sizes: GC is the standard 100 troy ounce contract, MGC is the micro at 10 troy ounces, a tenth the size. Both move in $0.10 ticks, which works out to $10 per tick on GC and $1 per tick on MGC, so the same 50-tick move is worth $500 on GC and $50 on MGC. Both trade on CME Globex nearly around the clock, Sunday evening through Friday afternoon Eastern time with a short daily pause, and both carry a front month, the nearest contract holding the bulk of the volume and open interest, that traders roll out of before it stops being that. GC settles by physical delivery of the metal if held to expiration, which is why traders roll it early; MGC settles in cash against the exchange's daily settlement price instead, so it carries no delivery step at all. Margin is set by CME and layered with a broker-specific add-on, and it moves with gold's price and volatility, so check your broker's current figure rather than a number quoted here.

## What the AI Returns From a Screenshot

Use the output as a repeatable pre-trade checkpoint, not a prediction.

### A-F Setup Grade

See whether the setup has enough pattern clarity, momentum, volume, and reward to justify the risk.

### Entry, Stop, Targets

Get a structured trade plan with entry zone, invalidation level, targets, and risk/reward.

### Screenshot-Based Read

Use charts from TradingView, Webull, ThinkOrSwim, MetaTrader, Robinhood, or any broker.

### Risk Notes First

The analysis flags extension, messy chop, weak retests, thin reward, and conflicting indicators.

## Grade the gold futures setup before you commit a contract

A GC chart and an MGC chart of the same move look identical except for the price scale, and the setup quality does not change with contract size. SnapPChart gives you one consistent checkpoint before you commit either size.

- Grade a GC breakout or pullback before sizing into a full contract
- Check the same setup on MGC first if you are trading smaller size
- Confirm the round-number level the gold futures chart is reacting to
- Review the entry, stop, and staged targets before you roll into the new front month
- Re-grade the chart after the CME Globex session reopens to see if the structure held
- Skip a C-grade setup rather than stretch your stop to make the trade work

## SnapPChart vs a general AI chat assistant for GC / MGC gold futures chart analysis

A general AI chat tool can describe a gold futures chart, but it will not size the tick math for you or hold GC and MGC to one grading standard. SnapPChart reads either contract's screenshot the same way, so a GC setup and the equivalent MGC setup come back graded on equal footing.

| Feature | SnapPChart | General AI chat assistant |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Reads both GC and MGC chart screenshots the same way | Yes, one standard | Inconsistent |
| Setup grade (A+ to F) | Yes | No |
| Entry, stop, and targets on the contract's own price scale | Yes | Varies by prompt |
| Flags an already-extended gold futures move before you chase it | Every bear case | Rarely surfaced |
| Same criteria whether you trade the full contract or the micro | Fixed methodology | Varies by prompt |
| Grade history to review your gold futures setups | Yes | No |

## What do traders ask about GC and MGC gold futures chart analysis?

The contract mechanics behind GC and MGC, and how SnapPChart grades the chart itself.

### What is the actual difference between the GC and MGC gold futures contracts?

Size. GC is the standard COMEX gold futures contract, 100 troy ounces of gold per contract. MGC is the micro version of the same underlying market at 10 troy ounces, one tenth the size. Both move in the same $0.10 minimum tick, but because the contracts are different sizes, that tick is worth $10 on GC and $1 on MGC. A trader sizing down from GC to MGC keeps the same gold exposure per tick at roughly a tenth of the position size, which is the whole reason MGC exists: smaller accounts and finer position sizing on the same market.

### How much margin do I need to trade GC or MGC?

There is no fixed number worth quoting here. CME sets an exchange minimum margin for both contracts and adjusts it as gold's price and volatility move, and most brokers add their own buffer on top of that minimum, so the actual figure varies by broker and changes over time. Check your broker's current initial and maintenance margin before sizing a position. SnapPChart does not connect to your account or your broker's margin data, so it has no live number to show you either.

### When does GC / MGC gold futures trade, and how does the session work?

Both trade on CME Globex nearly 24 hours a day, opening Sunday evening and running through Friday afternoon Eastern time, with a short daily maintenance pause. That near-continuous session is why a GC chart can already show a completed move sitting in front of you at the New York open. The exchange marks both contracts to an official settlement price at the end of each trading day, the reference level used for daily margin calculations, separate from the final settlement that only matters if you hold a contract into its expiration.

### What is the front month, and when do traders roll a GC or MGC position?

The front month is whichever contract month currently carries the bulk of the trading volume and open interest, and it is the chart you should be looking at unless you have a specific reason to trade a further-out month. GC lists active contracts mainly in February, April, June, August, October, and December; MGC lists a contract for every calendar month, so its front month changes more often. Traders roll out of the expiring front month into the next one before volume and liquidity migrate away from it. It matters more on GC than MGC because GC settles by physical delivery if held into expiration, so traders who never intend to take delivery roll out ahead of that date; MGC is cash-settled, so it carries no delivery step, though liquidity still concentrates in the current front month the same way.

### Does SnapPChart track which contract month I'm on or handle the rollover for me?

No. The grader reads only the chart image you upload: it cannot tell whether that screenshot is the front month or a further-out month, has no sense of an approaching rollover date, and does not adjust the read for expiration. Managing which contract month you are actually looking at, and rolling it on time, stays entirely on you; screenshot the contract month you actually trade before you upload it.

### Does it need a live futures data feed to grade a GC or MGC chart?

No. SnapPChart grades the screenshot you upload: the candles, structure, key levels, and volume visible in the image. It does not pull a live gold futures quote, the exchange's settlement price, order flow, or the economic calendar, and it does not know your account's margin usage. Take the screenshot when you want a read and upload it.

### Is GC / MGC chart analysis free to try?

Yes. New users get two lifetime chart analyses, no credit card required. The first analysis shows the full depth so you can see exactly what the AI returns from a gold futures chart; the second is gated to show what the paid product adds.

### Can it grade a short GC or MGC setup?

SnapPChart grades long and short momentum-continuation setups from chart screenshots. Choose Long only, Short only, or Both sides in your trading profile. Both sides picks one direction from the chart.
